Got back to the basics last night while shooting some deep-sky images. Put a camera on a fixed tripod and shot some winter star trails while I sat in the car with the heater on.

Not much too it. Just focus on infinity, and shoot continuous 4 minute exposures.
Combined as layers in Photoshop with each layer as a lighten blend mode.
