Well, here it is June already, and I can count the number of times I have been out this year on the fingers of one hand. The weather has been absolutely abysmal. This is the worst year so far for clear skies I can ever remember.

My good friend Joe and I went out to try to see the luminescent clouds released by a NASA test of a new system for studying the ionisphere and aurora from a two-stage Terrier-Improved Malemute sounding rocket fired from Wallops Flight Facility on the eastern shore of Virginia.

Naturally, the test was scrubbed because of clouds.

Joe managed to see a couple of comets and Venus, Uranus, Neptune, Jupiter and Saturn in binoculars, and I grabbed this shot of Venus and Uranus between the clouds.

This was just a simple 50mm lens on a fixed tripod and a 5 second exposure at f/2.8 at ISO 800.
